Biscuits and Fixins – The Biscuits and Fixins include warm biscuits with salted butter, maple butter, clover honey, strawberry jam, and orange marmalade. I am always looking for delicious biscuits, and these are perfect! They are warm and satisfying with an amazing fluffy yet crumbly, buttery texture. My favorite spread is the maple butter which slathers onto the biscuit beautifully. It is incredibly creamy with a deep, sweet maple flavor and a hint of saltiness. The biscuit and butter come together in heavenly harmony. Salted butter and honey are always a delightful pair with the salty, rich butter and sweet honey. Salted butter with strawberry jam is always my go to with any type of bread. The bright, sweet, and slightly tangy strawberry jam is amazingly refreshing and cuts through while complimenting the salty, fatty butter. If you are craving warm biscuits like I often do, these will hit the spot!
Pickles – At Jacob’s Pickles, you can choose from their various types of housemade pickles. You can choose one, four, or eight types to create a sort of “pickle flight”. I got the Big Dill Kosher Cukes, Dilly Green Beans, Sweet & Spicy Carrots, and Horseradish pickles. You get a generous amount of each variety of pickle and can take the leftovers to enjoy at home. My favorite was carrots. They were perfectly crunchy, sweet, and earthy. The brine added an addicting tangy finish with a subtle peppery kick. My second favorite was the horseradish pickles. The slices of cucumber were crisp and refreshing with sweet horseradish flavor and a punch of spiciness. They were unique and exciting for my tastebuds! The green beans were crunchy, tangy, and herby. They were light and especially fun to munch on. I was slightly disappointed by the dill pickles. I expected them to be extraordinary, but instead they were quite average. They were tasty but nothing special. Their other more unique pickles were so impeccable, I didn’t mind! I finished the left overs in one sitting the next day!
Honey Chicken and Pickles Sandwich – The Honey Chicken and Pickles Sandwich includes buttermilk fried chicken, hot sour pickles, and clover honey on a biscuit served with Grain Miller Organic Cheese Grits. Yes, it’s as good as it sounds! The gorgeous hunk of fried chicken is crisp and incredibly juicy. It is topped with a pile of thinly sliced hot sour pickles. The pickles are crisp and bright cutting through the rich fried chicken. They have the most amazing sweet, sour flavor. Although they were supposed to be hot, I didn’t notice much spice. The honey adds delectable gooey, sweet, subtly floral flavor that compliments the chicken and the gorgeous biscuit. The cheese grits are the perfect velvety, cheesy, side. It is truly an amazing fried chicken sandwich. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Pumpkin Biscuit Bread Pudding – The Pumpkin Biscuit Bread Pudding is a pumpkin biscuit based bread pudding served in a skillet and topped with five scoops of salted caramel ice cream. It is their fall special bread pudding. Their regular biscuit bread pudding is served year round. This is a massive dessert that is so incredibly delicious. I shared it with my sister as our main meal, and we just narrowly finished it because it’s so big. The pumpkin biscuit itself is gorgeously crisp on the outside with a warm, moist, soft interior that melts in your mouth. It has the perfect earthy, not too sweet, spiced pumpkin flavor. The bread pudding has a satisfying hint of saltiness that is balanced beautifully by the ice cream that melts into the bread pudding adding its sweet, creamy goodness. I loved it so much I could help but do a little happy dance as I ate. All dessert lovers must try it!
Abita Root Beer – The Abita Root Beer on tap is made with spring water, herbs, vanilla, and Louisiana cane sugar. I don’t drink much soda, so typically when I go to drink it, I find the flavor much too sugary and lacking complexity. This root beer has an incredible depth of flavor and the perfect amount of sweetness. It was refreshing and delightful!
