What I Got: Green Tea Éclair Shell with Matcha Filling, Ube Éclair Shell with Vanilla Filling

At Beard Papa’s, you get to choose from a variety of cream puff shells with either vanilla, matcha, or chocolate filling.  They are all filled to order.  The shell was wonderfully crispy on the outside and fluffy and airy on the inside.  Since they are filled to order, the inside does not get soggy.

Green Tea Éclair Shell with Matcha Tea Filling – The green tea éclair shell is a pâte à choux dough with a green tea glaze on top.  The filling is a matcha flavored custard.  The glaze is in a generous layer, so the green tea flavor really comes through.  The glaze melts in your mouth beautifully as well.  My favorite part was the filling.  It was creamy, smooth, light and bursting with matcha flavor.  It was so good I said, “Wow!” when I first tasted it.  The filling was also not too sweet which I loved.  The green tea shell with matcha filling was one of the most delicious matcha flavored treats I’ve had.

Ube Éclair Shell with Vanilla Filling – The ube éclair shell is a pâte à choux dough with an ube glaze on top.  The filling is a vanilla flavored custard.  The ube glaze had an incredible, genuine, not too sweet ube flavor.  The filling was creamy, luxuriously smooth, and light, and it had a great vanilla flavor.  This custard was slightly thicker than the matcha custard.  The combination of the ube shell with the vanilla custard was amazing.  The subtly nutty and earthy ube glaze mixed wonderfully with the light vanilla flavor.  It was incredible!
