Review:
This crispy tofu is a recipe by Debra Klein. It is delicious and so easy to make! It is great as a healthy appetizer, snack, or salad add-in. It turns out wonderfully crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The seasoning is delicious as well. It is perfectly spicy and salty with a hint of garlic and ginger that add depth to the flavor. I could not find arrowroot powder like the recipe calls for, but cornstarch worked perfectly.
The recipe only took me about ten minutes to prepare (just remember to press the tofu ahead of time). You simply cut the tofu into thin triangles, toss it in the marinade and dry ingredients. Then you bake it for 30 mins, flipping them halfway through. If you have the time, I have found a special trick to make the tofu extra and more evenly crisped. I toss it in the marinade and then put the dry ingredients on a plate (rather than sprinkling them over the tofu), so I can individually coat each piece of tofu evenly with the mixture. This cornstarch/arrowroot powder mixture is what makes the tofu crispy, so when they are all evenly coated they will come out with maximum crisp.
This recipe can be used in so many ways! I have already made it a few times, and it has turned out delicious every time. It is officially my go-to recipe to add to salads and an appetizer option for my vegan/vegetarian friends. Even if you are not a big fan of tofu, the crispy texture and tasty seasoning make it worth a try.
